"I noticed when I was dancing today how much my soul needed what you were creating in the space. And I'm feeling very grateful. As I so need spaces for connection with my body and with others in the raw humanity of the joy of movement. And so I'm moved to offer my heartfelt appreciation for your service. It will live on in my memory as one of the first times I engaged in such body connecting joyful movement outside of an alcohol environment."  dancer anon

"I have been coming to Sarena's Sunday morning 5Rhythms class for many years and I absolutely love it. It is liberating, restorative, grounding, a safe space where I come home to myself and connect deeply with others. And it is all these things because Sarena holds the space so beautifully, with humility, honesty, authenticity, wisdom, warmth and compassion. And of course some great music!"

About us:
Lindsey is passionate about the benefits that yoga can bring to all minds and bodies, she encourages people to experience inwardly whilst keeping a light and playful vibe. Sarena has an eclectic, wild taste of music and a natural sense of how to seduce the body into the dance, the fun of pure movement and the joy of being connected to what is bigger than us. She facilitates from a background of 20 years of teaching conscious dance and is a process-oriented psychotherapist working with individuals, couples and groups.

Many of us don’t identify as a WRITER, yet, we write emails, text each other, write to do and shopping lists, academic writing, poetry and on social media. We all write a lot of the time and by doing so step into a space that holds creative possibility, no matter if it involves carrots and toilet paper or a poem that flows out of our pen. Many of us did not identify as a DANCER, until we stepped onto a dance floor and realised that our bodies know how to move to a beat and melody without our cognitive mind showing the way. Sometimes we wrestle and other times we dive eloquently into the waves of our soul.

On Saturday 5 July we will have a day of mixing and remixing our dancing and writing. Journeying and journalling across the page and the wooden floor, accessing spaces inside us otherwise not readily available in everyday life. It will be a day of articulating our creative soul, in writing or shapes with our body: a sentence that shakes our insides, or a ream of words and movements that fall perfectly odd-shaped across a page and the dance floor, deeply resonating in the marrow of our bones.

We start at 10am and finish 5pm.

Venue: Stockbridge house, Gallery (upstairs hall)

Cost: £80 with a non-refundable deposit of £20 to secure your spot.

Articulate - the experience

Articulate front.png

A bit about my writing experience. I have an Hons degree in literature, taught languages in secondary school, published poetry in my twenties in my mother tongue, Afrikaans, and was a publisher supporting authors of non-fiction writing between 1982 till 2022. Did I say I wrote and produced a play as a student on feminism, using movement and music? And I co-authored a chapter in The Oxford Handbook of Dance and Well-being. Now I am a journal writer and dancer exploring my process and struggles every morning with writing and movement as my tools and Processwork my method. I run regular online experiential sessions Move & Write on Saturday mornings.

Saturday 5 July

Dream Doors - in person in Edinburgh
Dates for 2025 to follow

Dream Doors, a series of Saturday afternoon workshops, providing space explore different themes in movement. Ultimately by getting to know myself, I move closer to self compassion – because I do not have to fulfil or live something that is not me. I do not have to respond to any demand from outside or internal. I become my biggest project.
In these 4-hour workshops we will explore and dance, write, draw to discover what in us is ready to emerge and grow. Do one workshop or all. You also get an optional 30-minute one to one session supporting you to integrate during the week after the workshop.

Living Closer to the Dreaming - online
New dates to follow soon

These sessions include movement and talking. We dance, we explore, we bring into words and you are facilitated for 15 min each. This is a small group working online.
